How can I get my church involved as an official Pin-A-Sister SundayTM site?
Our 2011 goal is to reach more than 4 million people, through the participation of more than 600 churches and other media outreach events and efforts. We are actively looking to broaden our faith-based outreach and welcome the participation of new places of worship. Contact Paulina Guzman at 312.526.2087 or via email at info@pinasister.com.
My church is participating in this year’s campaign. I would like to receive a toolkit to prepare for Pin-A-Sister SundayTM, but I am unable to download the toolkit off this site.
If you are having problems downloading your toolkit from our site, please email your contact information to
info@pinasister.com and we will contact you as soon as possible.
Why is this campaign focused primarily on African-American and Hispanic women?
In 2006, the Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force released an arresting statistic-more African-American women in Chicago are dying of breast cancer than white women, even though breast cancer prevalence among African-American women is lower. A recent update shows that this trend has only gotten worse.
If African-American women are to have an equal chance of survival, the word must get out that screening and treatment are imperative. As Chicago is both an economically and ethnically diverse community, we know that other minorities, including Hispanics, are affected by the same health disparities and need outreach on this important health issue.
Can churches with other racial backgrounds also participate?
Although the campaign targets African-American and Hispanic women, we welcome involvement by all women to promote breast health.
I am an uninsured woman living in Illinois. How can I get the proper screenings?
Stand Against Cancer is an innovative program funded by the Illinois Department of Public Health Center for Minority Health Services to reduce racial and economic disparities in access to breast and cervical cancer screening and treatment.
You may access the screenings through one of ACCESS’ 50 health centers located throughout the greater Chicagoland area or by calling the toll-free line at 1.888.SAC.HOPE.
Can I go anywhere to receive my mammogram and/or Pap smear?
You may access the screenings through one of ACCESS’ 50 health centers located throughout the greater Chicagoland area.
My church participated in Pin-A-Sister SundayTM /Domingo de Examínate ComadreTM last year. Do I need to register my church/organization again?
Yes, every year we ask churches/organizations to register. This will ensure that you receive your toolkit and pink ribbons for your pinning ceremony. Please complete the electronic registration form.
My company is interested in becoming a sponsor of the 2011 Pin-A-SisterTM campaign. How can it become a sponsor?
As the campaign continues to grow, we are actively recruiting sponsors to expand our reach. Please contact Paulina Guzman at 312.526.2087 or via email at info@pinasister.com.
